2012 phd, indeed

this is my last post before i shut the blog down. originally started as "2010 phd", and then "2011 phd?" this has been my forum for keeping some of you in the loop regarding my process. it was a tough journey for me. the course work was a breeze, and the data collection for my thesis was an absolute joy. writing the thesis was challenging, pretty much every step of the way. i struggled against all kinds of voices inside my head that filled me with doubt and fear. but in the end, through the support of one of my committee members and one of my friends, i started writing every day, and i got it done. it's not my dream thesis, but it's pretty good. there's some stuff in there that i'm really proud of. i can live with it. that's all that counts now. i didn't know what to expect from the oral exam, but it was surprisingly enjoyable. i didn't have to do any revisions to the thesis itself--just minor corrections (typos, punctuation, etc.). once the corrected version was submitted and accepted (july 15), i felt a huge weight lifted from my shoulders. it was incredible. that was while i was in corner brook, where i was teaching this summer. now i am in st. john's as "visiting assistant professor" for the fall semester. back to toronto to teach at oise in january. that's it for this blog. maybe i'll do it again someday when i finally land a tenure-track job... or not. thanks for reading, and thanks for all the support from near and far. nancy dawe, phd!
